All The Fun Of The Fair – The London Book Fair 2017, That Is

London Book FairMoving forward from its usual April slot, the 2017 London Book Fair is running between Tuesday 14 and Thursday 16 March. As usual, it promises to bring all the fun of the (book) fair to London’s Olympia.

This year’s London Book Fair comes at a time of renewed confidence within the industry, with UK markets starting to show fresh signs of growth. According to data from Nielsen BookScan, last year saw print sales increase by almost 5% – the second consecutive year of growth. And it’s a similar story across the pond, with book shop sales increasing by 2.5% in 2016. In addition, markets in Asia are booming, while European markets are becoming more stable.

Director of London Book Fair Jacks Thomas explained: “If you look at a three-year snapshot, 2013 and 2014 didn’t make for very happy reading, but we are now going in the right direction.”

Of course, the London Book Fair 2017 is taking place against a political backdrop dominated by Brexit and Donald Trump. If nothing else, the four-day event will be rife with discussions about Europe and Trump’s tirades about the media.

This year, Ixxus and CCC are sponsoring a number of events over the three days – all of which promise to be as lively as they are informative. Those seminars include:

Carl Robinson will also be chairing the panel for What Works? Successful Publishing Resources and Technologies for the Future.
