Is Digital Transformation Eluding You?

Digital TransformationNo-one can deny the business benefits of digital transformation. It brings opportunities for growth, development and innovation.

According to research by IDC, two thirds of UK SMEs are using technology to implement a digital transformation strategy. As a result, companies are becoming more efficient and more competitive, but they are having to work hard to meet the growing needs of digitisation.

For publishers, the task of digital transformation can feel like a colossal challenge. This may not be the case for book publishers – their content lends itself fairly easily to digitisation – but others are finding the route to digital transformation a struggle.

An article on Publishing Executive points out that magazine and newspaper publishers are finding the process tough. This is largely because single articles or news stories stand on their own online, with people searching, sharing and commenting on individual articles rather than entire issues.

Saying that, content is more than just articles – it’s videos, images, podcasts, infographics, blogs, listicles and more. Each item of content can be marketed by publishers via social media, email and content platforms.

The publishers enjoying the greatest success are those who view print simply as yet another distribution channel. Curating their best digital content, they’re able to package, repurpose and deliver it to those readers who want to consume their content via print.

It might seem like a round-about way of doing things, but the industry is changing and saying ‘that’s how we’ve always done it’ isn’t going to get you very far.
